| Now, you've heard this many times before, and I know....it's really irritating. The first thing the IT guys says to him after you tell him how your computer is not working, the program has crashed, or whatever the little electric gremlins have caused to go wrong this time, it's always "did you reboot?". Well, did you? And as irritating as it is, it probably fixes the problem almost half the time. So, why reboot? Does this really fix anything? Well, the reason this has become the fix all with computers, is not because rebooting actually "fixes" anything, but it resets things. And the reason why we have you reboot, is not because we don't know what's wrong, it's that usually nothing is broken. And yes, we could probably take a look at your system and shut down the process that isn't working right or manually re-log you into the network, but it's easier, faster and it continues to be the best fix all we know. So, before you call IT.....Reboot! |
